Hydraulic Pressure Test for Seamless Steel Pipes
Hydraulic pressure testing is a fundamental and crucial quality assurance measure for seamless steel pipes. It serves to verify that the pipes can safely and reliably withstand the internal pressures they are designed for during actual service.

Test Procedure
• Preparation: Supply system and a pressure - generating device, such as a high - pressure pump.
• Filling with Water: The pipes are gradually filled with water to expel all the air inside.
• Pressure Increase: The pressure is then slowly increased at a controlled rate.
• Holding Pressure: Once the specified test pressure is reached, the pressure is held constant for a certain period.
• Pressure Release: After the holding period, the pressure is gradually released in a controlled manner.
Seamless Vs. Welded Pipe
Seamless pipes are made from high-quality steel. It is cast into a round shape and then pierced at the center. Then, it goes through rolling and heat treatment. After that, it is cut into different sizes based on the need. These pipes are devoid of any welding joint, which enhances their structural integrity. Seamless pipes are durable. They can handle high heat and pressure. They also resist corrosion. They have uniform properties throughout their length, making them better than welded pipes.
Seamless Pipe | Welded Pipe |
Expensive than welded pipe | Cheaper option compared to seamless pipes |
No welding seam on the tube | It has welding seam on tube |
Made of solid round bars | The main raw material is steel coils and strips |
With high OD and ID tolerance | High production efficiency |
Can bear high-pressure | Thickness tolerance is moderately precise. |
Thickness tolerance is stable and accurate | Used for low/ medium pressure applications |
